The 27th European Championships in Rhytmic Gymnastics
Dexterity, grace and dynamics - all in a beautiful combination were displayed to the fans during the 27th European Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics held in Minsk from 27 to 29 May 2011 at the sports complex "Minsk-Arena".
In the medal standings of the continent the Russian team has become the strongest, which accounted for 9 medals (4 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze). The Belarusian team had 6 medals (3 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze) and third was the team from Israel (1 silver and 1 bronze).
The Belarusian team was represented by Lubov Cherkashina, Melitina Stanyuta and Anna Ryabtseva. Most of the medals to the team were earned by Lubov Cherkashina, who showed excellent results in exercises with clubs and ball (two gold medals). The third, bronze medal, the grace won for the composition with a hoop. Also, an athlete has been awarded with grants from Alina Kabaeva fund for artistry.
Altogether the championship was attended by over two hundred gymnasts from 35 countries in Europe. Among them - the champions and Olympic medalists, World and European championships winners.
In addition, good results were shown by the Belarusian juniors, who won gold in the all-around in the group exercises. In the final exercise with five ropes, the gymnasts finished the second.
No less interesting was presentation of the Belarusian national team of seniors (women older than 16 years) who were the team championship silver medalists.
By tradition, after the closing ceremony on the "Minsk-Arena" Stars show of world gymnastics took place. On the carpet with a demonstration performances out of the current member states of the European championship, as well as the legendary gymnast - Irina Chashchina, Anna Bessonova, Olga Kapranova and Tomara Erofeeva. In addition to the athletes the show was attended by the Belarusian musical group "Palladium Electric Band" and the ensemble "Camerata".
Belarus hosted the first tournament on rhythmic gymnastics of a similar level to that in Minsk were only the World Cup and Grand Prix. Talisman of the current champion was a swallow, and the primary colors of the forum - purple and dark blue.
